Mulincan 3-Axle Lowbed Semi-Trailer: A Customized Solution for Infrastructure Transportation in West Africa

Recently, a leading Nigerian engineering logistics company, in order to support the cross-border highway network expansion projects it undertakes, was in urgent need of a batch of transportation equipment suitable for heavy engineering machinery. Recommended by industry peers, the company’s leader made a special trip to Mulincan to focus on inspecting the 3-axle lowbed semi-trailers. Combining 15 years of R&D experience in heavy-duty trailers and service experience in the West African market, the Mulincan team not only presented successful cases of providing transportation support for infrastructure projects in countries such as Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire in the past, but also offered customized technical solutions and a complete set of parameter documents tailored to Nigeria’s characteristics—including complex rural road networks, frequent muddy conditions during the rainy season, and concentrated demand for heavy equipment transportation. The client highly recognized the product’s scenario adaptability and initially reached a cooperation intention.

As Mulincan’s flagship product developed specifically for infrastructure scenarios in West Africa, this 3-axle lowbed semi-trailer focuses on “heavy load adaptation, road condition resistance, and safe efficiency”. Its five major technical upgrades accurately meet the needs of engineering logistics:

1、Super Strong Load-Bearing System for Heavy Equipment

The frame is made of Q690 high-strength alloy steel with integrated welding, and its stress structure is optimized through finite element analysis. Equipped with three 12-ton enhanced axles (with a total rated load capacity of 35 tons), it can stably carry 25-ton road rollers, 30-ton prefabricated box girders, and large crushing equipment. The 3-axle independent suspension system, combined with 16mm thick leaf springs, can evenly distribute the cargo weight to each axle. When driving on unpaved roads, the cargo sway range is controlled within 5%, preventing damage to precision components of the equipment due to jolts.

2、Low Platform + Hydraulic Tailgate to Solve Loading/Unloading Difficulties

The platform height is reduced to 850mm, 15% lower than that of conventional lowbed semi-trailers in the industry. Combined with a hydraulically adjustable folding tailgate (with a maximum load capacity of 20 tons), there is no need for additional ramps. Tracked equipment such as excavators and loaders can drive directly onto the platform. The loading/unloading time for a single piece of equipment is shortened from the traditional 40 minutes to 25 minutes, increasing efficiency by 37.5%. At the same time, the reduced height difference between the platform and the ground also lowers the risk of equipment tipping over when climbing.

3、Flexible Steering + Compact Size for Complex Road Networks

To address the pain points of narrow rural dirt roads and numerous curves in Nigeria, a 3-axle linked steering design is adopted. The turning radius is 20% smaller than that of a 2-axle trailer of the same length (the minimum turning radius of a 12-meter-long trailer is only 8.5 meters), allowing it to easily pass through 3.5-meter-wide rural roads and temporary construction site passages. The 12-meter-long trailer retains a 10-meter effective cargo length, which can not only meet the transportation needs of 6-meter wind turbine towers and 9-meter-long steel structures, but also avoid traffic problems of oversized cargo in narrow sections.

4、Durable Structural Design for Harsh Environments

Key components of the trailer body (such as axle connection points and suspension brackets) are treated with hot-dip galvanizing technology, which has a corrosion resistance duration of over 1000 hours in salt spray tests and can resist rust in the humid environment of Nigeria’s rainy season. Double-layer reinforcing ribs are added at the frame welds, increasing torsional strength by 25% and enabling it to withstand the impact of gravel roads on the chassis during the dry season. The adaptive suspension system can automatically adjust the shock absorption damping according to the road hardness, reducing the body jolt amplitude by 30% on muddy roads, potholed roads and other scenarios, ensuring stable transportation of equipment.

5、Compliant Configuration + Basic Safety Protection to Reduce Traffic and Transportation Risks

Strictly adhering to Nigeria’s Federal Road Transport Safety Regulations, the 850mm platform height keeps the total cargo height within 3.5 meters, allowing it to pass through 3.8-meter-high rural bridges and 3.6-meter-high restricted passages in mining areas smoothly without applying for temporary traffic permits, thus reducing transportation delays. Meanwhile, the trailer is equipped with reflective signs and braking systems that meet the standards of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), enabling it to quickly pass border security checks during cross-border transportation. The platform surface is covered with 3mm-thick anti-skid patterned steel plates, with a friction coefficient increased to 0.8. Combined with 12 10-ton high-strength fixing hooks on the edge (compatible with fixing tools such as chains and binding straps), it can effectively prevent cargo from sliding during emergency braking or turning.

After completing an on-site test drive (simulating scenarios such as rural dirt roads and construction site ramps) and confirming that the trailer is compatible with its main engineering equipment, the client signed a purchase contract for 6 units on the spot, planning to use them for equipment transportation in heavy highway infrastructure projects within Nigeria. This cooperation not only marks Mulincan’s 3-axle lowbed semi-trailer successfully entering the high-end engineering logistics market in West Africa, but also provides efficient and reliable transportation support for China-Nigeria infrastructure cooperation through customized technical solutions, helping to accelerate the progress of local infrastructure projects.
